Open the door to Mel’s backyard in Reading, Massachusetts, and you’re likely to catch a glimpse of her sacred childhood rituals: running around on four limbs pretending to be a lion or choreographing sweet music videos to the Pokémon movie soundtracks.
After graduating high school in 2008, she made her way to The College of Wooster in Ohio. Among her fellow Fighting Scots, she genuinely experienced the four most magical years of her life playing varsity soccer and running track, going on a six month journey abroad in New Zealand, making incredible memories with amazing friends, and absorbing all she could in terms of academia (hi mom and dad). The day Mel graduated was simultaneously exciting and terrible, but she made her way back to Boston for the summer and waved goodbye to Wooster, Ohio.
Fast forward a few months and Mel was moving to Chicago, IL with two close friends on a complete whim. Did they have jobs lined up? Of course not (hi again mom and dad). But not to worry, a month after arriving in the windy city, Mel was supporting herself with a waitressing and gym job (do you want creatine in that protein shake?). As fun as that was, she had her heart and mind set on landing a five-month Event Coordinator internship at Red Frog Events. Lo and behold, she managed to put together a killer cover letter, nail two interviews, and join the Spring '13 RFE internship class. A few happy dances and big chunk of hard work later, she completed her internship and was awarded with an upgrade to "full-time dream job" with six of her 45 classmates.
The laundry list of skills and event knowledge acquired throughout her time at Red Frog is extensive, but she will tell you that after twelve Warrior Dashes, three Firefly Music Festivals, and one Big Barrel Country Music festival, she's a pro at making events come together and stay together. She'll help you source wholesale merchandise for your next event, rent portable toilets at the best price, book the most reliable security guards, make your social media pages pop, research the tastiest food trucks, write a standard agreement or twelve, or tell you who to talk to if you need a giant portable water slide (he's an awesome guy).
After Red Frog, Mel set her sights on new horizons and ventured into the world of experiential marketing by joining the team at All Terrain. She learned the ins and outs of client relations, figured out how to reach as many target consumers as possible through events, and had some fun along the way. Pop-up dinners, anyone? Coming right up, she put on seven for Char-Broil Grills.
Today, you can find Mel back in the festival world with Solid Ground Shelters and G3 Presents as a Project Manager planning, organizing, and executing VIP hospitality programs, lounges, and camping "villages" (glamping) for major music festivals, weddings, corporate events, sporting events, and even a yoga festival here and there (Namaste).
Some say her lineage, not her physical features, traces back to Bigfoot because when she’s not planning and executing some kind of event, her favorite locations are either in the woods or on the tops of mountains. Akin to a real life Reggie Rocket, of "Rocket Power" fame, Mel enjoys playing soccer, running (she has knocked out three Ragnar Relays, two trail 10k races, two half marathons, and one full marathon), hiking, camping, snowboarding, longboarding, surfing, and doing things that will get her adrenaline going (bungee jumping in New Zealand and Sky Diving in Waialua were pretty rad).
Mel doesn't know where her wanderlust will take her next, but she does know her love of planning and producing epic events to please the masses will be with her throughout the entire journey.
